This research reveals the positive economic effect in the case of fuel generation from domestic waste water using aurantiochytorium.

Nowadays, there is activated sludge treatment method; making aerobic microorganisms decompose. However aurantiochytorium sp.18w-13a discovered by Tsukuba Univ. Watanabe lab. (ABES) is not only decomposing organic matter in water but also generates squalene (C30H50).

Squalene must be hydrogenated because it is unsatulated hydrocarbon, so if it burns, it produces soot. As a result, squalan (C30H62); satulated hydrocarbon is generated. Then the yield of squalan is over 98% when we use special metal catalyst; PMPSi-MO/Pd in solvent. However squalene is unsuitable for fuel because the calorific value is high, on the other hand, the octane number is low.

Thus we hydrogenolysised squalan at 583K with Pt-Re/SA catalyst, C10-C20 class hydrocarbon were collected 68.8%.

Aurantiochytorium generates squalene 34,200L/ha/year. Thus when we use above method, we can obtain fuel 23,256L/ha/year. This corresponds to 2.8 million yen, as the retail price of gasoline.
